On Friday, October 9th in Lacey Washington, Zach Miller made the Regional Development Team for the Future Star 8 year olds! Each Region across the country picks their top placing boys at their Regional Future Star Testing and that makes up the Future Stars Regional Development Teams.
Zach placed 3rd in our Region, with a 1st place finish on Still Rings and Trampoline. Look for his photo in an upcoming USA Gymnastics magazine.
About the National Development Team – Future Stars Program
The Future Stars Program is an athlete development and education program. The Future Stars Program consists of six age groups 8 year olds, 9 year olds, 10 year olds, 11 year olds, 12 year olds and 13 year olds, who perform selected skills and compulsory routines on the six men’s events plus trampoline, strength and flexibility evaluations. The 8-9 year old division participates up to the Regional level while the 10, 11, 12 and 13 year old divisions can qualify to the National level.
The Junior National Development Team is determined through the use of a “Future Stars” National Championships/Evaluation held in the fall of each year. The competition targets the 10, 11, 12 and 13-year old age groups of athletes and involves athletes being judged/evaluated on the six events using a basic skills compulsory routine composed of approximately ten basic skills elements placed together in routine form. In addition, there are events that involve evaluation on trampoline, flexibility, strength and body positions. The evaluations are done by a coach/Junior National Coaching Staff member and a NGJA judge working together to produce a score based on technique and execution.
